Oct. 1st, 2019 11:39 amThere's a new addition in Chicago this month of Halloween, smacked between the edge of the forest and the edge of the city. Regardless of the time of day during October, this area of the city is always dark as night (Sometimes a storm crackles above, sometimes a heavy fog). The manor is foreboding. Sometimes the windows glow red.
Inside the house is dark. Sometimes the lighting works to line the long, dusty hallways. Sometimes it doesn't work at all. A door that had been there a moment ago might be gone the next, might lead somewhere else, might be locked and no amounts of tugging on the handle will change it. A large staircase in the foyer, a spiral staircase in the library, leading to a black door as dark as coal, which is locked.
A shadow moves under a door, around a corner before you can fully see what the shape of the figure is. A young girl cries down the hallway, muffled as if it's in the wall. A scraping metal sound against the stone of the outside. Another face is in the mirror, staring through you-- the face isn't yours. A cold hand touches the back of your neck but when you turn that way, there is nothing there (or is there?).
Sometimes you will step out of your bedroom (or the dining room, or the Kashtta, or- or one moment out on the street and the next in a cold hallway) and then you find yourself in one of the rooms of the house. You could be asleep and wake up in a bed in the mansion instead of your own bed. There's rumors of a magic artifact being lost somewhere in this house. There are reasons to enter, reasons to be trapped with others who want out as much as you do (and working together is the only way).
Entering isn't the problem. It's getting out that will be far more difficult.
